There is roughly a foot of snow on the ground in the Central Bear River Range on upper elevation north-facing slopes. Other slopes in the Logan area mountains are brown and bare ahead of the incoming storm(s). A weak weather system clips our area today. A more significant storm with strong winds and widespread precipitation is expected to impact the entire area late Sunday into early next week Snow amounts are uncertain at this time, but avalanches are possible in steep terrain once there is snow on the ground. Avoid steep snow-covered slopes especially during and after a storm when avalanche activity peaks. Early season avalanches can be traumatic due to shallow coverage.
